I have recently seen a couple of posts around the traps of drone videos of the old cement works in Warkworth. This prompted to me get my act together as I have had a memory card sitting around for far too long! Here is my take on the cement works, filmed last month and finally cut into something.
It's amazing what we have in our back yard!

Something to drone on about...

So a couple of weeks ago I had a thought... Hmm how useful would a drone be? Getting into the real estate photography market drone photography sort of sets the bench mark for the kind of perspective agents want! So off to the shop I went to purchase the Phantom 3 Pro (unbeknownst to me at the time that the Phantom 4 was just around the corner..). This Drone offers full 4K video and 12mp stills. I have drummed up a quite a few of hours on the sticks now and am really getting the hang of it! I Look forward to working on some exciting projects in the future and using it to further develop my business model. To find out more or book me for an event or shoot CLICK HERE. Here is a quick clip for now ;)

Long Exposures and Flash

So the other day the sunset was shaping up to look pretty good, but I had committed to shooting the full moon rising instead... I went down to Campbells Bay on the shore and took a few shots while I was waiting for the moon. Whilst there I noticed as it was also high tide (Yup, moonrise, sunset and high tide combo) there were waves crashing against the walkway. I have tried to get a similar shot to this before, and although it was not my intention on this particular outing I thought I would give it a go.
I set my camera up with a frame that would allow my to see the water splashing up and the moon and horizon. The basic idea was to have the shutter open for an extended period of time (8~ seconds) and when the waves crashed I would manually fire the flash. As you can see in the above shot, I got it right! Once... When I was about to leave I noticed a decent set of waves coming in so I stayed where I was.. As you can see in the picture below, this was a little more than I had bargained for and as the wave crashed up onto the footpath to get me and all my gear absolutely soaked, I grabbed my tripod to try and get the camera out of the salt water... Shutter was still open and you can see here the trail of the moon, and the very faint splash of water.. Everything got wet.
In hindsight, I learned that it would've been better to just leave the camera there... This could've been an excellent shot!

Last month there was a Project Jonah Charity auction where my friend Beth and I raised a total of over $800 for this great cause at auction. One of the items was a photoshoot with hair and make up.
Yesterday we did the shoot!
Hair and make up was done by award winning Beth Robinson of Servilles. Kristina and Drew made great models for this couple shoot and already had a good idea in mind of exactly what they wanted. This made things flow really well.

If you are interested in something like this as a gift or for yourself get in touch and I can put together a quote for you.

This was shot in a studio in Auckland city.

Canon 70d
Canon 70-200mm f2.8L
Canon 50mm 1.8
Canon EX430ii
Two studio light boxes

Yesterday I had the opportunity to shoot with the gorgeous model Ashlee D. It's great shooting with an experienced model to make sure we can achieve what is in the brief. Whether we're looking for cheek bones, jaw lines or just great hair.
